Jeanne Devidal, the “Lady of Saint-Lunaire”

Published in Causette in april 2020.

She marked the small Breton seaside resort of Saint-Lunaire: Jeanne Dedival. Nicknamed the “madwoman” by the tourists, the one who was also called the “Lady of Saint-Lunaire” had undertaken the construction of an unusual house, made of objects found just about everywhere, in the manner of artist Facteur Cheval. Her whimsical residence had finally acquired a reputation far beyond the city’s borders, and tourist coaches came to see this local “curiosity”. Considered an artist today, she never received this recognition during her lifetime, so the house was eventually destroyed.
